Ridin Old Paint: Documenting the Canadian River Breaks
Fiddle Tradition will be on exhibit in the Texas
Musicians Hall Of Fame at the Buddy Holly Center
through Sunday April 1, 2001.
The
exhibition was developed and installed with in
conjunction with release of a CD by the same name. The
project was developed in an effort to preserve the
rich history of influential Texas fiddlers and
musicians of the Texas Panhandle.
The CD Ridin Old Paint: Documenting the
Canadian River Breaks fiddle tradition was the
brain child of the late fiddler Buck Ramsey who passed
away before recording sessions could begin. In an
effort to continue the project Andy Wilkinson stepped
in as director and began historic recordings with
artists such as Jess Morris, Frankie McWhorter, Fred
Thompson, Rooster Morris, The Mayfields, Karen
Walters, Alvin Crow and Andy Wilkinson.
The Smithsonian Institute provided
equipment for field recordings. The CD was engineered
by Grammy Award winner Pete Reiniger and recorded in
the historic Tascosa schoolhouse at Cal Farley’s Boy’s
Ranch near the Canadian River.
