The Day the Music Died
January 31 - February 3, 2006
Lubbock, TX– The Buddy Holly Center would
like to invite the public to commemorate the anniversary of Buddy Holly’s
death, often called “The Day the Music Died,” from January 31
– February 4, 2006 during “Buddy Week”. To honor the life and legacy of Buddy
Holly, patrons are invited to bring their favorite “buddy” to the Center and
receive two admissions for the price of one during ”Buddy Week”
from January 31 – February 4, 2006.
On February 3, 2006, citizens can
remember Lubbock’s most famous native son with all day activities at the
Buddy Holly Center. In conjunction with “The Day the Music Died”
activities, from 6:00 – 9:00pm the Buddy Holly Center will participate
in Lubbock’s First Friday Art Trail, a monthly fine art event. The
Prophets of Rockabilly will play live music from 7:30 – 8:45pm that
evening.
Also on
Friday, February 3, the anniversary of Holly’s death, the Center will host a
guided tour with Rock n’ Roll historian Bill Griggs at 6:30pm. The Real
Buddy Holly Story, produced by Paul McCartney, will be shown in the
theater at 11:00am and 3:00pm, and there will be children’s activities all
day in the classroom. “The Day the Music Died” is an
opportunity to commemorate the lives of Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and J.P.
“ The Big Bopper” Richardson, whose lives tragically ended in a plane crash
near Clear Lake, Iowa during the Winter Dance Party tour in 1959.
