Paper Cuts: The Art Of
Contemporary Paper
December 19, 2006 - January 20, 2007
Paper Cuts
consists of 40 objects made with paper by approximately
25 American artists. Although all the artists
incorporate paper into their artwork, they employ a
wide range of techniques and styles, including
mixed-media assemblages, three-dimensional collage,
and papier-mâché techniques. Many artists in the
exhibition explore paper’s ability to be transformed
from the flat to the voluminous, as well as the range
of texture and the organic nature of paper.
Paper Cuts
is curated and organized by Robert Cugno and Robert
Logan of the Media Gallery in Garnett, Kansas. The
exhibition is toured by ExhibitsUSA. The purpose of
ExhibitsUSA is to create access to an array of arts
and humanities exhibitions, nurture the development
and understanding of diverse art forms and cultures,
and encourage the expanding depth and breadth of
cultural life in local communities. ExhibitsUSA is a
national division of Mid-America Arts Alliance, a
private, nonprofit organization founded in 1972.
The exhibition will conclude with a
reception on January 19th from 6-8pm. The
Buddy Holly Center is proud to present guest speaker
and artist Kathryn Clark, from Brookston, Indiana, who
will give a gallery talk during the closing reception
starting at 6:30pm. Clark and her husband founded
Twinrocker Handmade Paper which was the pivotal in the
modern revival of handmade paper in America. The
following day, January 20th, the artist
will present a demonstration and interactive workshop
at 1:00pm.
This exhibit is a program of ExhibitsUSA, a
national division of Mid-America Arts Alliance with
The Texas Commission on the Arts and The National
Endowment for the Arts. Programming
at the Buddy Holly Center is made possible in part by
the generous support of Supporters of the Fine Arts
(SOFA), CH Foundation, Helen Jones Foundation, Target
and the City of Lubbock. For more information about
